Wow-I just had a look at the "Roses" website. What a powerful project. I had no idea so many women were sent away; I thought it was mostly men. I will really look forward to seeing your bonnet when it is finished, so please do post a picture. You should try to do a blog post on your page here as well, because it is history that should be more widely known.
Pardon my Americanism (!)...perhaps I should know better, because my mother is English (from Bedford)...but what is a "convict bonnet"??? It sounds positively like something that should be worn in a Tim Burton movie! or maybe I just think that because I am predisposed to costumey things. Let's see...currently running projects include making larger than life fabric vegetables for the local children's health museum; a seafoam tulle confection of a dress with a 50's vibe; and a jester costume for my niece (who is 19), and a cotton candy dress costume for my daughter(who is 19) for halloween. And whatever else catches my fancy...I have a hard time not having 6 projects going at one time!
