Profile Information

Where I live
About me and my connection to fiber art & mixed media
I am a former costume and set designer, now working as a mixed media fibre artist. I love to try new media and techniques which is perhaps a downfall, I should probably be more focused.

I use a variety of materials and techniques in my work. currently I am working on a body of work dealing with the fragility of nature. My costume background is evident here.

I also teach a variety of art classes for Gallery Stratford and The Foundation For Enriching Education

Encaustic show

Posted on September 25, 2011 at 11:45am 0 Comments

As I mentioned in the spring I did 2 shows in 2 weeks and the same thing was going to happen  n the fall...it just did. We opened "Line of Thought" last night at Gallery 96 here in Stratford. I will write more about that later. Previous to that 3 friends and myself had an encaustic exhibition at a friend's new gallery just outside of town. We all took an encaustic class just over a year ago and became addicted. So Anna Koot, Wendy Orr, Michelle Salter and myself decided to do a show…

More encaustic

Posted on April 18, 2011 at 9:50am 0 Comments

This time, it's encaustic on plaster. A series of 3 masks I did for the "Goddess Show" at Gallery 96, here in Stratford. they are called "The

3 Graces". The plaster casts originally were done for an artist / dancer friend that I was doing workshops with. We had plans for s series of masks for other projects. So we had Vacu-form molds made at the Festival Theatre. I used these molds to make plaster faces, then I went at them with the encaustic and added a few oud items, or built on to the… Continue

New Work

Posted on March 14, 2011 at 4:08pm 0 Comments

I've been trying some new things and just wanted to share. the first piece is a piece of faux felt I made last month, To make faux felt; you lay out some netting, the second layer is roving spread out rather thinly, then a layer of bits like yarn hand made paper , threads, ribbon. you top this with a second layer of roving and a top layer of net. with a wide paint brush you soak both sides with wallpaper paste, until it is flat. Hang to dry. Put a sheet under it to collect the drips is…

Hi Wendy, thanks for your comment. I'm assuming you were referring to the bead embroidered hair clip which is my profile photo? The process can be a lot quicker than it looks if I can stay focused which is something I have a problem with at the moment. That particular piece took longer than it should have done because my cats were kittens at the time and kept trying to help! I'm going to change the link on my page to point to my flickr page instead of the old blog and I think there are a couple of pics of the beasts being "helpful".

I love your snail armour piece and I'm sure that if you have the patience for something like that you would find the beading easy if that is what you wanted to do.

It has been a while since i visited fiberarts, i have been busy weaving. The thing is in my home i have to work on the quiet so to speak because if anyone in my family or close friends get a whiff of what i am doing my small selling projects end up being "please could you just make me" add ons. So far i have made four scarfs and am now working on a sweater all because i was caught creating at four in the morning. My project for a exhibition next year has been put on the back-burner for a few days until said complicated and very large sweater is completed. I am itching to get going on the exhibition work the title being "Thresholds".Will post some pictures soon.

Hi, Wendy. Your work looks beautiful (I particularly like "Masks") and I'll look forward to seeing more of it!

I've never tried needle felting -- actually, I'm not much for felting at all (except when I throw an old sweater in the washer) but people sure seem to love it. I'm mainly interested in hand sewing and since I have a hard time keeping up with the work I have to get done, I don't manage to branch out much at present. I did engage in 20 years of experimentation to get to this present body of work, however, and I'm sure one of these days I'll take off on another journey. Thanks for your kind words and for being my friend!

Sadly i don't know of the people that you mentioned, i am a bit of a reclusive artist however i still should like you as a friend. My very first friend at infant school was called Wendy O`Brien not the same i know but perhaps our paths were meant to cross :))
