Dog Food Bag, "Candy", by Rayela Art
NBC and Etsy are collaborating in a competition for the best ideas of using recycled and upcycled materials to create new products.  I want to win!  And, I have a good chance...  I think my dog food bags are pretty cool and without having too much of a bloated head, I must say that there are some pretty awful things being offered up in this race....  So, I may have a good chance.  The winner gets a paid vacation to Orlando, Florida.  Ho, hum...  That would be fun, but I am more interested in catching the eye of Martha Stewart, one of the jurors, and then maybe being able to direct her on over to TAFA.
Yes, you do have to sign up in order to vote, but you can also enter the sweepstakes where the winner gets a $500 spending spree on Etsy.  I would like that even more than a trip to Disneyworld!

 The TAFA Market

TAFA: The Textile and Fiber Art List has continued to grow into a beautiful organization full of eye candy for the lover of textiles and fiber arts.  We are having our first public event in Paducah, Kentucky during our annual quilt show.  TAFA members are sending in textiles and fiber products for exhibit and we are having a silent auction, vendors and a raffle.

We have two big goals:  to introduce our members to the public and to raise money for our new website.  TAFA is currently hosted on a Blogger platform which we have outgrown.  The new site will have a powerful search engine with image based results.

For more information, click on the following links:

  • TAFA Market details
  • Silent Auction (we have an online version for those of you who can't make it)
  • Raffle (also an online version)
  • Rayela Art:  I am using my blog to feature the exhibitors, vendors and other things which will be going…

Do you love textiles and fiber art? If so, you will definitely want to make your way over to TAFA, an organization I launched in February of 2010. TAFA's members, now numbering over 200, are either working artists or have small businesses

that sell textiles from around the world. Each member has a profile

which gives a thumbnail sketch of what they do and where they can be

found on the web. The use of social media is our core marketing

approach, so we can also be found on Facebook (where we have a large, supportive following), Twitter, Flickr and other places.

TAFA's goal is to grow into a virtual database of fiber art and textile businesses, a place where designers, collectors, corporate buyers, shoppers, writers, and anyone who is

interested in textiles and fiber art will go to when they search for

interesting work. We seek to be both international and diverse in scope.

One of my goals was to lessen the divide between contemporary fiber art

and cultural textiles, giving the same importance to a weaver from

Guatemala as to one living in Santa Fe. As TAFA has grown, this diversity has made it one of the few places where both share the same platform.

There are many subgroups within TAFA that will evolve into programming for those members. The first of these has been the formation of an Etsy Team as almost half of TAFA's members…

Hello Rayela your Fiber Focus blog is very inspiring !
I did not know Freddie Robins work, Ilike it very much
and feel related to it.
You mention the word therapy, In a way I put all my ideas and
feelings about life, fulnarability and sometimes even sexuality
in my crochetwork. I work like that for 3 years now [ after 20
of ceramics ] and havea lot of succes in Holland and Germany. J.
