Stitcher’s Garden Book: A mixed media embroidered journal tutorial
6 sessions/6 weeks
All levels of proficiency
For years I’ve watched artists and crafters examine their supplies with an adventurous eye. As an instructor, I’ve often heard the question, “How can I add stitching to a book project?” A Stitcher’s Garden Book is the answer. Join me for 6 sessions over 6 weeks where, beginning with a blank sketchbook, we’ll create a treasure full of original mixed media embroidered pages. Together, we’ll explore reality & fantasy compositions while we work with paint, stamps, collage, and mixed media alongside dimensional stitch and embellishment. As we move along, we’ll share our progress in the FAMM forum. Additionally, with categories including Trees & Nests, Critters & Crawlies, and Wee Folk & Winged Things, we will lay the base for you to continue your mixed media stitch journey long after class is over. Like any faithful sketchbook, your book will grow along with you and your interests and skills. In the same way that so many of us plant and tend our food and flower gardens with care and excitement, we will use mixed media exercises, image and text, and hand stitching to grow something very special. If the idea of a Secret Garden, or Stepping Through a Garden Gate, or the prospect of unifying your green thumb and your stitching fingers sets your imagination loose… then this is the class for you!
