Yes... but graduate level studio art classes can be wrongly harsh... I've never cried in class, but a few of my classmates had walked out of critique in tears. I have always tried to take the feed back with a "grain of salt", but when something so close to identity is under attack... Well, now seeing the images on this site and perhaps being older and wizer and having the time in my schedule to really explore... I have the time to really make art the way my "eyes" see best.
Hi Andrea. "Art is in the eye of the beholder" yes?
I am SOOO happy to have found this group! As a formally trained artist, I HATE it when I've been told in my studio classes that some of my lines look like doodles. I feel like screaming, "Hello that was my plan!!!" Now I can direct those Nay-sayers to Zentangles... I've been making marks like this my entire life and now I can name it! I have LOTS AND LOTS of pens and have even done this with fine brushes... Thanks so much for validating how I've always made art!
Love the looks of your gel pen. Is it a regular size point? I tend to work on small ATC'c so am always on the look out for fine points. Micron pens are expensive for me as I would whip right through them. Always needing options. That's half the fun for me to. I am an adventurer at heart...
Ok, my computer has been two weeks, due to a tropical storm, and it's back up. I was really hoping to see some action from when I was gone. I am getting ready to sand and recycle an end table, which will have a zentangled top. While out of internet commission, I did instigate zentangle ATCs with a visitor from NY. My publisher is coming down from Toronto, and I intend on instigating again. It's so much fun.
When I find some of the other unusual pieces, I will share them too. Most of the studio is packed. I can always create more. I love working on black. This is with a white gel pen. The silver doesn't work so good. Even if you like paper mostly, add some color before you begin. Use colored paper, or color your own papers.
What a coooool sounding product. Thanks for bringing to our attention!!
What are you doodling on? Paper? Just paper? How about something new? Absorbent Ground by Golden goes over gesso and allows you to watercolor and draw on surfaces you could not otherwise. Wanna see?
While challenges do not exist here, I would like to challenge you to take your favorite playing card and create a new one with zentangles. I am thinking of each of the aces, and all of the eights. For this challenge though, it will have to be a fish for Go Fish, lol.
Come on. I dare ya'.
