what can I say, five years of doing fibreQUARTERLY has given me a rare in site into Canadian and international fibre arts and artist from around the world. I have discovered the roots of Home Ec(onimics) and Domestic Science, Contemporary Guilds and how the function or don't. I have gotten to know most of the University and Art College fibre programmes too many of which are struggling to exist. It is time to celebrate fibre and textile arts in Canada, it is time to Mentor the next generation, time to invested time and remove barriers between, Quilters, Knitters, Weavers, Embroiders Crocheters, mixed media artist and crafts people. fibreQUARTERLY is my passion, fibre report in A Needle Pulling Thread (new issue just out) is my mass media out let and Susan R. Sorrell and this site is a conduit into yet another group, facebook and twitter all help spread the word. But are any of use making a living doing what we do. I have just became a member of the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum because it needs to be supported in developing its "Canadian Textile Industrial History" not because i can drop by any time I want (its just out side Ottawa, I live in Toronto) I have noted over 12 exhibitions opening in the next six weeks across the country in my latest fQaroundtown Blog posting. We as a country have artisan, artist and craft makers in shows around the world. Jacquard Weavers in Japan, felt makers touring Europe and here at home fibreworks 2010 along with FABRICation opening at the Cambridge Galleries on September 11.

welcome to the Canadian FAMM group.

my latest Fibre Report column in A Needle Pulling Thread Spring 2009 is on the newsstand. this is a good magazine and getting better all the time, yes it has patterns and DIY stuff, its the range of articles that make it interesting (mine with standing) http://www.aneedlepullingthread.com/

Hi, I am in Edmonton and new to this. I have signed up for a course in Felted Landscapes and Fabric Painting, and that will be my starting point. I love all the different things I have seen on the site. There is so much talent here. I am looking forward to learning from everyone. I have taken a basic quilting course, and found that I like to applique, and do beadwork. Any ideas or suggestions for newbies would be greatly appreciated..Thanks Lynne

May i make a suggestion? Rather than just commenting here, start a discussion--for Canadian suppliers, shows whatever--easier to find info than having to scroll through all comments. Just click on "Start discussion" at the top!
