Thanks for the advice, Beth! I'm thinking Bernina is the way for me to go, mainly because of all of the machines I've looked into, Bernina has the largest amount of room to the right of the needle, so if I'm quilting large quilts, it will be easier to do. I took a class in Jonesborough from Sue Nickels, who quilts her large quilts on her Bernina. She doesn't use one of those real long arm fancy machines. She showed us how to do it on the smaller machine. It is great info to know that it has a foot for felting too! That's something I didn't know! I will be purchasing from either Johnson City (Bernina or Jenome) or Knoxville (Viking). On Wednesday we are going to J. City to check out the Bernina and Jenome machines. Those are the closest locations to me. We live pretty far from anything! One of my friends had a Pfaff and she said she would never buy another one; she had a lot of trouble with it. I don't know what she has now.

Hey, Aleta Anne, if you are looking to buy a machine, let me just mention that the Bernina has a foot made for felting! My advice on machines is to buy from a local dealer--so whatever is convenient to your location is the best, because you will need support and service occasionally. I thought my Pfaff was the cat's meow for years--until I sewed on a Bernina. Now I am a convert.

Oh, so cool, Kim -- I'm definitely going to check out your website for the art retreats and workshops!

Hi, Beth -- no, I've never gone to the AQS show in Knoxville but I hear it is great. The quiltfest in Jonesborough was my first ever quilting classes. I'm new at it. I really got inspired and am ready to get a good quilting/sewing machine, like a Bernina or Viking. I've been quilting a lot since the fest and my little Brother just doesn't quite cut it. It is good for regular sewing, but not quilting larger projects. I also love felting on my Babylock embellisher. Last year I almost went to a felting workshop in Asheville, NC, but didn't make it.

Hi Aleta Anne,
I don't get on here much either. I'd love to make it to Quiltfest in Jonesborough, but probably won't this year. Do you go to the AQS show in Knoxville? I went once when it was in Nashville and am keeping fingers crossed I can go to Knoxville this year.

Hello, Beth -
I don't know of any get togethers of Tennesseans. I'm in Hancock County and live kind of out in the sticks, not close to any major towns.
As a quilter, do you attend the Quiltfest in Jonesborough, TN? I did last summer and learned so much. I plan to go this year.
Thanks for joining this group. There are three of us here. I apologize that I'm not more active on here. I have a slow computer and dial-up which makes it frustrating to do anything on line. But I'll try harder to be more active.

I'm a quilter and sometimes fiber artist, near Chattanooga. Would love to hear what any other Tennesseans are focusing on, where you get together, etc.

I reside in eastern Tennessee and would like to communicate with other fiber artists in Tennessee.
